CIIT Library Celebrates World Book and Copyrights Day |
“Books, Pathways to the Future” was the slogan for this year’s “World’s Book and Copyrights Day”, which was celebrated by Library Information Services at CIIT (Islamabad Campus) on 25th April 2011.
Today’s readers are tomorrow’s leaders, but, unfortunately precipitous decline in reading habits has been observed in the recent past. Basic purpose of celebrating World Book and Copyrights day is to encourage people to discover the pleasure of reading and help them in understanding copyright laws. World Book and Copyrights Day was designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and is marked all over the world for so many years now.
CIIT has a rich tradition of celebrating this day by organizing different activities and events for stakeholders. This time around, a walk and library mounted book exhibition were the main activities of the day.
Celebrations started with a Walk, which was organized for raising awareness about the importance and benefits of developing reading habits among students. Rector CIIT, Dr. S. M. Junaid Zaidi (S.I.) inaugurated the walk which was participated by a large number of faculty members and students. Besides the honorable faculty members, this year, executive members of the CEC (Central Executive Committee), who were having a meeting at Islamabad Campus, also participated in the walk, despite the hot and humid weather conditions.
Participants of the walk were carrying banners and play cards on which different quotations were written about the importance of books and reading. They took a round of the campus and finished the walk at the library, where, Rector CIIT along with Executive Members of CEC and Raja Muhammad Ibrahim Senior Librarian inaugurated and opened the “Library Mounted Book Exhibition” for students and faculty members.
Throughout the day, number of students and faculty members were seen visiting the exhibition and taking interest in the books which were displayed inside the library premises.
